A fire monitor, also known as a water cannon or deck gun, is an advanced firefighting device that delivers a high-volume, powerful stream of water or foam over a long distance.
Unlike handheld hoses, monitors are designed to be stationary or remotely operated, allowing firefighters to attack fires from a safe distance. They are commonly mounted on fire apparatus (such as pumpers or aerial trucks), fixed installations on ships or offshore platforms, or used as portable ground monitors at industrial sites.
Monitors can be manually adjusted or controlled via electric or hydraulic systems to rotate horizontally and elevate vertically, covering a wide area. They are essential for combating high-intensity fires, such as those in chemical plants, airports, or large warehouses, where approaching the fire directly would be too dangerous.
