A Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) is a critical safety device used in fire protection systems to control and stabilize water pressure.
Its primary function is to reduce high inlet pressure from a municipal supply or pump to a lower, safer outlet pressure. This prevents damage to pipes, hoses, and appliances while ensuring firefighters can safely handle the attack lines. In high-rise buildings, PRVs are often installed on landing valves to ensure pressure on upper floors remains within safe limits.
The valve operates automatically, maintaining a constant pre-set downstream pressure regardless of fluctuations in the incoming supply. Typically made from durable brass or ductile iron, PRVs are essential for protecting firefighting equipment and ensuring effective, safe fire suppression operations.
